For one of our bigger ongoing projects, we’ve been working on improving a number of wooden mechanisms. And here is a byproduct of that research: A finely-tuned little desktop rolling-ball mechanism.

Increase the ball reserve and/or the track length, and you have yourself a pretty cool egg timer.
