What is a Book Review Essay?
Introduction: A review essay is a critical analysis of the book. Let us begin with what it means by critical analysis? It means to read, analyse, and evaluate the text based on your own interpretation. One should use examples from the text that support his viewpoint or opinion.
While writing a review, an essay writer should take a deep dive into the content of the text, its characters, and themes. You can agree and disagree with the author on various topics and give your opinion backed with examples and arguments.
Structure/Planning: The format of a book review does not differ much from any other type of paper as far as structure goes, but there are some minor differences between them. First of all you should always know the structure of a book review before you start writing it. Try to brainstorm and be as objective about your opinion as possible.
Introduction: This should include a brief summary of the background information necessary for understanding the work under consideration, including title, author, date of publication, etc. It should also establish what kind of critical approach will be used in analyzing this text (expository? descriptive? interpretive?). The introductory paragraph could also briefly discuss any matters specific to the classification or evaluation of this work (e.g., is it literary criticism or history?) Also mention why you have chosen an expressive review over some other format like expository essay on ‘The Three Little Pigs’ by Scott Foresman and Company
Body: In here the critic must provide an analysis of the content of the work under consideration. This includes a discussion of its themes and characters, as well as any literary techniques involved in the construction or presentation of these elements. The point is to provide evidence that you have actually read and understood (at least in part) what is being analyzed. These sections should also include a general evaluation of the work itself, not just isolated components such as particular characters or plot elements. Using examples from the text (and only from this text), discuss how this particular book has been written, what’s been achieved by the author through it. Have they used interesting style? Are there any unique ideas presented? Use your critical thinking skills for evaluating this work and discuss the same with examples from text.
Conclusion: The final paragraph is optional, but it is also a great opportunity to discuss why you think this text is important or relevant to some particular readership. It can include your own interpretation/opinion on how this book could be appreciated by other people. You might also want to mention what you would change in the text if you had the chance (this section could also focus on negative elements). Try not to close off your critique of the work too abruptly; rather try and finish in an open-ended manner that concludes without actually ending, giving the reader something more to think about or look forward to next time while reading a book review essay topic like ‘The Birthmark’ by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
Sample book review on ‘The Three Little Pigs’ by Scott Foresman and Company [REVIEW START]
Introduction: This is a story for kids, but it has an interesting plot. It is about three big pigs building their houses using different stuffs to protect them while remaining away from the wolf. The three little pigs are not only working together; they also learn many lessons from each other which help them in their journey of life. They make friends and learn how to fight back strongly when someone tries to harm themselves. They eventually defeat the wolf who is determined to have his way with them even at the cost of destroying all their houses.
Body: Here you can discuss what theme has the story presented. The first pig built a house using straw and twigs, while the second one had brick for his wall. The third pig was very intelligent and he used tall building materials like boulders, stones, mud mortar etc. to make his home more protected than the other two. At last when all three houses were destroyed by wolf as he wanted all of them to be dead after eating their roasted meat in different ways (burnt pork sandwich for first house made out of straw, Baked Alaska for second house made out of bricks which is treat)
Conclusion: The pigs showed teamwork and helped each other in great times of need. They became friends due to this incident and learned how to protect themselves not only from wolves but from any other big enemies too. They became resilient and developed determination to protect their lives from the threat of wolves. This helped them in later days also when they were grownups.
