TirkiParticipant
You are spot on. I installed the inkscape ppa then installed Inkscape 1.1 with apt-get and everything is working like a champ.
Looks like the SNAP install method is not quite cooked yet.
Thanks again for all your help!
TirkiParticipantOK, I installed Inkscape 9.2 and the older Axidraw extensions then modified preferences.xml to reflect the current python3.8 on my Ubuntu machine and my Axidraw is back!
This is a relief, I had almost convinced myself that I had damaged the EBB board.
Thanks for all your help! I learned a few things. I do prefer to use the newest version of Inkscape so I will tinker with the SNAP install and see if I can isolate the error to the apparmor Inkscape profile.
Cheers!TirkiParticipantOK, I have removed the SNAP inkscape and installed Inkscape 9.2 with apt-get. Now I get a different message when trying to plot from the Axidraw extensions:
AxiDraw software must be run with python 3.5 or greater.
I am running the Anaconda distribution of Python 3.7 :
(base) glenn@XPS-8100:~/Desktop$ python
Python 3.7.6 (default, Jan 8 2020, 19:59:22)
[GCC 7.3.0] :: Anaconda, Inc. on linuxMy PYTHONPATH is /home/glenn/anaconda3
TirkiParticipantI have gone through a bunch of gyrations without any success. The interesting part is I can see the tty Axidraw interface in /dev. Looks like this:
crw-rw—- 1 root dialout 166, 0 Jul 10 15:57 ttyACM0The USB interface for the Axidraw is listed in lsusb as :
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 04d8:fd92 Microchip Technology, Inc.When I try to connect to the Axidraw from Inkscape extensions I get the following message in the syslog:
Jul 10 17:15:26 XPS-8100 kernel: [ 397.937688] audit: type=1400 audit(1625955326.388:144): apparmor=”DENIED” operation=”open” profile=”snap.inkscape.inkscape” name=”/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.2/1-1.2.3/bNumInterfaces” pid=5411 comm=”python3″ requested_mask=”r” denied_mask=”r” fsuid=1000 ouid=0
Now the really interesting part is I get this message in syslog even though Apparmor has been disabled (sudo systemctl disable apparmor)
My next step is to remove the SNAP installed version of Inkscape and install the apt-get version and test that. I will let you know how that goes.
Thanks!TirkiParticipantOK, all better now. My PPA was installing Inkscape .92. I purged that and the Inkscape extensions directory then did the snap install of Inkscape 1.1. That worked like a champ.
I installed your Axidraw extension in the Inkscape extensions directory and everything works now.
I appreciate all the time you put into this.
Cheers!
TirkiParticipantJust deleted the extension directory and I am back to the old Inkscape behaviour.
I prefer the Axidraw Inkscape extensions so I will tinker with that.
Thanks for the tip on the extensions directory. I can take it from here.
Cheers!
TirkiParticipantI did ‘apt-get purge inkscape’ thinking that would do it. I suspect that did not remove all the inkscape directories. I will hunt them donw and remove them.
Thanks!
TirkiParticipantDone and done with no change in behaviour.
I think I will just tinker with it until I get it sorted out. I really do not want to burn your time with something so trivial.
If I get it fixed, I will post here.
Thanks!
TirkiParticipantThe current version of which software. I think hershey.py is current.
You did great comments in your code. Here is the time stamp:
Hershey Text 3.0.1, 2019-07-05TirkiParticipantSame error dialog.
I have tried ‘Extensions/Axidraw/Axidraw utilities/hershey text’ and ‘Extensions/Text/Hershey Text’. Same error if I try to convert text to Hershey text or generate a font table.
It feels like a path error (Ubuntu 20.4) but I haven’t found it yet.
Thanks for all your help!
TirkiParticipantUpdate I am using Inkscape .92
TirkiParticipantThat is correct.
I had the pen up setting at 89% and the pen down setting at 90%.
Thanks!
TirkiParticipantProblem resolved!
I had the pen up/ pen down settings too high in Inkscape. Resetting pen height to 60 up and 40 down resolved the pen lift problem.
My thanks for your help and support!
TirkiParticipantI have received and installed the new servo (Evil Mad Scientists have GREAT customer service!) but I get the same symptoms.
Using the axidraw extensions in Inkscape, I try to use setup to do the pen up/pen down test.
The pen up test works to move the pen up then the pen lift servo stops moving. No up, no down, no motion.
I can manually move the servo to the down position and it will lift again, just once, then nothing.
Seems to me like this is more likely a EBB control board problem rather than a servo problem.
Can you post a link to order a new circuit board?
If my Axidraw V3 is compatible with the new EBB control board I would prefer to use that. Otherwise I will just replace the existing board.
Thanks for all your time and effort!
TirkiParticipantGood information Windall, thank you very much.
