There’s not supposed to be anything in the software that automatically draws the bounding box. (Try plotting one or more of the example files to verify that.)

The most likely cause of this kind of thing is when you work with imported artwork, where you’ve exported a *white background* along with the artwork that you intend to plot. The white background can come in as a rectangle that the AxiDraw software assumes it is supposed to plot. You can usually ungroup the background and delete it within Inkscape, or (better) update your export settings from where you’re generating this to not create that background. If you continue to have trouble, you might let us know how you’re generating your artwork, or send a sample SVG to us by e-mail.

As a side note, you can also use the plot preview function to see what will plot, before expending ink and paper; see section 9.8 of the user guide.

Can you please clarify: Does this error only happen when you use Hardy Hershey Text?

If you use a voltage adapter, it *will not* work. You need to use a straight-through adapter that gives the power supply the full power that it needs. We have regularly heard of issues like this with voltage adapters.

Alternative approaches include: (A) Contact technical support or (B) Use your own power supply.

If you would like to use your own power supply, it needs to have
    (1) 9 V DC output
    (2) regulated output
    (3) At least 1.5 A output current capacity
    (4) a 2.1 x 5.5 mm output barrel jack
    (5) center-positive output

The AxiDraw includes a “universal input” power supply. It should use a plug-shape adapter only, not a voltage adapter like that one. You are probably not getting enough output voltage from it.

It sounds like you’re using an old version of the software.

You seem to seem to be e-mailing the same questions to us as well. To avoid answering each question twice, I’ll follow up with the e-mail chain.

In the Version tab of AxiDraw Control, please double (then triple) check that you have “AxiDraw V3/A3” selected from the AxiDraw Model pop-up menu.

You can verify that the full plot area is available by plotting (for example) a large rectangle with no pen in the holder.

If you do have AxiDraw V3/A3 selected, and are still having trouble, let us know, and we’ll follow up separately.

If you need to use Inkscape 0.92 and are using Windows, please make sure that you properly uninstall any other versions of Inkscape before trying to install 0.92.

Fantastic! It’s always great when there’s a clear cause for things not working right, and I’m very glad to hear that you’ve got it fixed.

First, check that all of your LEDs are facing the same direction.

If you’re using an AxiDraw V2, then follow the instructions in section 11.2of the current user guide.

in reply to: Slight adjustments to coordinates after switching pens? #25734

You asked: “Is there a better way for me to do this instead of moving the paper around each time I switch pens?” The answer is yes: moving the pen or the drawing is a better method. We would definitely recommend _not_ moving the paper.

The manual xy adjust in the control panel is too much with my plotter.

I’m not sure that I understand. You said that you were moving by several mm. The manual moves allow you to adjust by as little as 0.001 inch (0.254 mm). That should give you adequate resolution.

Is there no solution for moving the paper via the computer?

The AxiDraw does not have motors to move the paper. So… no? However (again) you can move the drawing or your pen, or the initial starting point.

Are you guys using a clipboard?

That’s one of the common solutions for paper holding.

Anyone thought of using little weights to hold the paper down?

Yes, that is another common method.

We have some detailed suggestions for minimizing the difference between the positions of different pen tips, in our documentation here:

    https://wiki.evilmadscientist.com/Multicolor_Plot_Tips#Troubleshooting_pen_alignment

You should be able to get consistent alignment by using procedures like these. (It may not be exactly the same position — for example if you’re using different pen types, but the differences should be consistent.)

If you know how much to shift, one thing that you can do is to use the “walk” commands in the Manual tab of AxiDraw Control. Movements made there can be used to compensate for changes in pen position. You can also potentially shift the graphics on one or more layers of your drawing.

I’ve split this topic since it does not appear to be related to the previous issue.

Please download the EBB driver directly from this link:
    https://github.com/evil-mad/EggBot/releases/download/2.7.1/UBWDriverInstaller_v20.exe

Then, try running that installer, to see if it gives you any issues. If not, then try connecting from within Inkscape again. Try a different USB cable, if you have one available, and try a different USB port on your computer.

If you’re still having trouble, please try a manual upgrade to the latest version of the EggBot software.

    (1) Download this ZIP file: https://github.com/evil-mad/EggBot/releases/download/v2.8.0/eggbot2.8b_Windows.zip
    (2) Copy the entire contents of the “extensions” directory from that zip archive to your Inkscape extensions directory, overwriting the files there. Typically, your extensions directory is located at:
    C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\extensions\ or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Inkscape\share\extensions\

Message received; it looks like you skipped a few steps of the instructions. It also looks like you included a copy of the kit v1.5 instructions, even though your kit is v2.0 (which has different instructions).

    We’ll follow up by email.

Please contact technical support directly (reply to your order confirmation message or use our e-mail or contact form) so that we can send you a replacement transistor. Make sure that there isn’t damage to the circuit board around the location of that transistor.

If you’ve already removed the offending transistor, it should still allow the other four digits to light, so there may be something else wrong. Double check the instructions: Make sure that you’ve got all the parts installed, that they’re in the right places, in the correct orientations, make sure that your chips are fully seated in their sockets.

If you continue to have difficulty, you might consider sending us clear photos of the top and bottom of the circuit board (again, by e-mail — it’s much easier to share photos). We can often identify issues that way. If all else fails, there are some alternative debug strategies including physically sending the board to us for diagnosis or repair.
