It would be nice, but that’s not a capability that we offer.

The function of the AxiDraw is to plot the vector outlines that you provide to it. If you provide large volumes of text in an appropriate format, _of course_ it can plot it. This is like asking “can a laser printer print a pie chart?” Of course it can, but _you_ need to create that chart. It will not do so for you.

The Hershey Font format can be used to make custom fonts, but we are not providing support for adding custom fonts yet. (That is a project that is currently underway.)
Here is one example of someone making custom fonts, (using an AxiDraw knockoff):

You have also written to us directly by e-mail, and we have answered you there as well.
The answer is unchanged: You are using outline fonts, and they have outlines.
Windell OskayKeymasterThe fonts that you are using are made of outlines; there is no center line within them. This is normal and expected behavior.
Hershey Text does not use regular outline fonts, but does have a very limited set of available styles and characters.
(This is not related to the original topic of this post, so I am closing the topic.)
Windell OskayKeymasterThe error that you’re seeing reflects the software not being fully installed (only certain components are installed on your computer) — if everything is installed correctly, and it can’t find the EggBot, it will say so directly.
Windell OskayKeymasterIt sounds like you don’t have the full set of software installed. I’d recommend running the EggBot installer for Windows, available here:
https://github.com/evil-mad/EggBot/releases/download/v2.5.0/EggBot_250A.exeWindell OskayKeymasterPlease try downloading a fresh copy of XQuartz ( https://www.xquartz.org ) and run the installer. Restart your computer after installing, and run any available OS updates before trying to open XQuartz.
To open XQuartz (not Inkscape) for the first time, do so from the Applications folder: Right click (or control-click) on the icon and select Open from the pop-up menu there.
Windell OskayKeymasterIt’s perfectly fine to install the older version, including the UBW driver, on Windows 10.
Windows version before 10 absolutely positively would not work without the driver, but Windows 10 will almost always work without it.
(We have seen a few cases where there were connection difficulties, on Windows 10, which were solved by installing the driver.)
Windell OskayKeymasterGreat; thanks for following up!
Windell OskayKeymasterIf you update to the latest beta from the repository, also remember to update to the latest beta of plotink: https://github.com/evil-mad/plotink
Windell OskayKeymasterHi James,
Please try Inkscape 0.91, as per EggBot installation instructions. We have had many reports of 0.92 not working correctly.Make sure that you’ve run the EggBot software installer, as it installs a USB driver.
Windell OskayKeymasterFor the first one, it sounds like you just need to delete the original rectangle after creating the fill. Select the filled object, then Object > Ungroup to separate the two. Select just the outer rectangle and delete it. (It’s sometimes a little hard to select just the outline of an object like that. If you have trouble, click the hatch fill and select Object > Lower to bottom. Then, you should be able to select the outline easily.)
I’m not sure what you’re trying to do by setting the stroke to “no paint” — that makes the object hard to find, but the paths are still there in the document, and will be plotted.
As for filling with a pattern, that will not work. AxiDraw software does not plot fill colors, gradients, or patterns. You would need to find a way to convert that fill pattern into paths.
Windell OskayKeymasterOh wow! Thanks for reporting back!
Windell OskayKeymasterSorry, can’t help you with that. That’s not a hardware configuration that EggBot software supports.
