Please check the rubber feet– since they came off — there should be a mechanical shim (a plastic washer) around the stem of the rubber foot, on the back-left and front right feet.
I should also say — even before you have a chance to check that — *thank you* this is incredibly helpful feedback that the feet came off in shipping. We had a debate about whether or not they needed to be glued in, since they never seem to come off in normal use. And, that does settle the discussion for us.
Windell OskayKeymasterGreat– sounds like progress.
Any chance your table isn’t level? The machine should rest pretty well on its feet, if they’re all touching ground.
Windell OskayKeymasterHi Craig,
I’m sorry to hear about the issue. I’m not immediately able to reproduce it here. The issue is that you have an older version of the “plot_utils” script in your Inkscape extensions directory.I just tested deleting all of my AxiDraw files from Inkscape on Windows, and ran the Installer, and it seems to have worked correctly. So… there must be something different about your configuration. Is there any chance that you installed the EggBot software *after* the AxiDraw software? (The EggBot installer currently has an older version of this file; that would explain it, if it were the case.) Could you try running the AxiDraw installer again, just in case?If you’re not able to have success that way, please let me know, and I’ll provide instructions for “manually” updating it. Please let me know!Windell OskayKeymasterWe are indeed swamped and running behind schedule on many things, but the software and the first part of the user guide are posted on the wiki. This (along with ramping up production) are our top priorities right now. We *are* dedicated to making sure that everyone does have a smooth experience as they get up and running. The user guide does walk you through getting your software setup and through your first print, but we will also be continuing to add to the manual all month long, including a few planned tutorials that aren’t in there yet.
Windell OskayKeymasterIf you need to change the software to work with a different kind of plotter, you will need probably want to adjust the page size, resolution, speed, and acceleration values found in the axidraw_conf.py configuration file.
Windell OskayKeymasterIgnoring the question.
An interesting thing to think about is what would it take to be able to take an outline font, and draw it with a marker, such that it represented the intended outline as well as possible. Perhaps a path-inset type operation, aware of the pen width (a “tool offset”) could be designed to do that.Windell OskayKeymaster(To close this out: The solution turned out to be a matter of setting the pen-up and pen-down heights a bit differently.)
Windell OskayKeymasterGiven that it is reproducible, I think that this is a software, or at least timing configuration, issue on your computer. While it cannot absolutely be ruled out, I also cannot imagine that any kind of hardware defect that could cause such a specific yet reproducible issue. My instinct is that any EggBot plugged into your computer would behave the same way.
I’ll follow up by e-mail.Windell OskayKeymasterI’ve tried a test print here and don’t see any stray lines. This is a good looking file; clean lines, no defects that I can see other than the duplicated lion head. (On the other hand, it looks like you did not zip the SVG before sending it, which means that mail-handling programs can alter it.)
It *seems* like perhaps some pen-up commands are being ignored. Some questions:Are the places where you get the lines consistent from print to print? If yes, and if you simplify the file to just those elements that are bridged, does it still give the same bridges? If yes, can you get the the lines to change or disappear by using a much slower plot speed or increasing any of the delays?Windell OskayKeymasterI’m looking at the file now.
I don’t see the stray lines in the file. (I’ll keep looking for the cause of that.) However, the lion is indeed doubled in the file– there are two copies of those vectors, one right on top of the other.Windell OskayKeymasterIf you are going to install the repository files directly (rather than use the latest release), there is an additional requirement, which is to install the new library “plotink”, which has the “doXYMove” command.
You can download the code from https://github.com/evil-mad/plotink , and copy the three files from the “libraries” folder into the Inkscape extensions folder.
Edit: I apologize for not mentioning this earlier when suggesting that you try the latest version. Sorry!Windell OskayKeymasterGreat– glad that’s working for you. It really is a world of difference, isn’t it? :D
Windell OskayKeymasterI’m not sure that I’ve seen that error before. I think that you may not have the right version of plot_utils.py. My version (v 0.4) does not have getLegnth on line 76.
Windell OskayKeymasterI don’t know; you might contact them directly.
Windell OskayKeymasterYikes. That doesn’t sound good at all. Nothing short of a strong solvent (alcohol, acetone) should be able to affect the fiberglass.
The EggBot model that you have is actually very little different from the current models. The motors should be compatible with the EBB, and it should all run fine from 9 V DC. It does sound like it could be a current-setting problem. -
